~The Daily Coconut~ The Ghost Ship
After the storm had passed , we had a "raucous shipboard hullabaloo" as the bosun deemed it. He told me that things like this often happen at sea, and that they always liked to have a bit of a party to unwind afterwards. A keg of rum was rolled out on deck and tapped into by Walt himself, and he was rationed out the first drink. The Captain called out, "Three Cheers for the Bosun's Mate, where in Hell would we be without him ! " Hip Hip Hooray !Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray! The mood was infectious, and soon we were all singing and dancing and carrying on. It was just a real good time. The First Mate, Jin- Sushi was singing a guttural shanty from his home port of Namhae, on the Peninsula of Corea. I couldn't understand a word of it, but he was having so much fun. Everyone was trying to sing along, to many laughs. It sounded like so many frogs croaking in the night. Everyone was partying so hard we didnt even see a ship approach until she was just outside of our range. I had no idea what was going on until I hear Walt scream out " Sail, HO!!" and everyone looked to starboard where he was pointing. Much scrambling ensued as the Captain shouted, "Battlestations!!"and all onboard hurried to their assigned posts. (except myself) I was fixed, still amazed by the sight of her...
