~THE DAILY COCONUT~
"... where in heck you been boy? I been out here waitin on ya for two drinks minimum, now I know you aint been talkin out of school to no one yet have you, Son?? I mean seriously, you wanted to talk and now you leave me hangin for this little bit, it aint polite to ignore someone for too long now, you should know better, Rookie. Maybe you had one too many pulls off that ol' Wild Turkey. Thats alright, Kid, I'm waitin on you. I wanna get this off my chest finally cuz it needs to be get gone. I notice you lookin a little green under the gills, you sure you alright? How bout you and me go for a little cruise, and just chill for a bit. Think you can walk? Well, C'mon, we got places to go and people to see, let's get a move on." "Boys, make sure Mr. Wild Turkey dont fall down and break somethin. We've Got Work To Do." I am introduced to Sawyers 'Crew' which consisted basically of a few wily buccaneers he uses to pilot his beautiful sailing ship, The Sassafrass. After a short trip to the docks, we board her, and set off with a brisk wind at our backs. The air smelled so clean, with that briney taste one can only know from the sea. The Crew was completeley capable, it seemed. All hands were busy about their duties, while Captain Sawyer stood alone at the helm, supremeley confident. I had to take a strong pull off the handle of the Wild Turkey, to get my sea legs, and I hear Sawyer call out,"A round all around for you Scallywags, lets run her straight up this Ol' Gals skirt we should make port in a couple of weeks if we're lucky! Steady On! All Hands Report at once!" The mates all line up and hit the bottle gladly, and all are satisfied. They go back to work gratefully warmed against wind. A few laughs are heard, and the Captain beams as only he can, immensely happy. I am loathe to take it from him when we begin again where we left off, I have a strong feeling it isnt going to be pretty AT ALL... I decide to go take a nap, and the Captain doesnt say boo when I go below decks. I decide to bunk in the Captains Cabin, quite inebriated at this point. I take a short(!) nap. It's light out again when I awake. Out on deck, Sawyer looks like he hasn't moved from the helm. He is stoic and silently waves to one of the crew to relieve him at the helm. He goes below decks after ordering the bosun to put me to work in the galley. "The boys usually go for a stew if we can before we start in on fishin' up dinner, I got us somethin special on occasion of you comin on board. I'm gonna go get my eight hours, and that's when I want my dinner. The crew gonna have to have some chow in about four, so, you get movin on that stew. I know how you get down in the kitchen. Anything you need just ask." Thrilled, I followed the bosun to the galley. He assigned me a young man to assist me, by the name of Walt, who was his son, apparently. The galley was well stocked, and so was the storeroom. The main surprise was a lovely doe all dressed out, and fresh. I cut up a bunch of stew meat after cutting out the backstrap and the loins, and made quick work of her. I set the massive cauldron to boiling while I cut up plenty of fresh vegetables for our stew. It began to smell so wonderful belowdecks that there were plenty of inquiries for assistance of any sort. Walt sent them back about their business curtly. He seemed quite well respected for such a young man. It almost seemed I detected the slightest hint of fear towards him...
